Description
This plant is commonly known as Alocasia x amazonica, but A. x mortfontanensis is the accepted name. This aroid has its origins in warm, humid climates, as it is a cross between Alocasia longiloba and A. sanderiana, both of which originate from Southeast Asia. The plant prefers an environment with even humidity and temperatures between 18 and 25 °C. It is particularly well suited for terrariums with high humidity and shaded to semi-shaded areas. Although the plant requires regular watering, waterlogging should be avoided to prevent root rot. Due to its origins, it thrives in bright, indirect light, making it an ideal plant for tropical terrariums or humid indoor spaces.
The most striking features of Alocasia x mortfontanensis are the large, arrow-shaped leaves with prominent white veins, which have a waxy surface. These leaves can grow up to 50 cm in length, making the plant a visual highlight in any terrarium. Due to its growth height of up to 1 metre, Alocasia x mortfontanensis is particularly suitable as a background plant in larger terrariums. It adapts well to tropical environments and, with its structure and size, creates an interesting habitat for smaller terrarium inhabitants.
