Description
The Crystal anthurium originates from the tropical forests of Colombia and Ecuador. This decorative plant from the arum family (Araceae) grows on the edges of rainforests as an epiphyte on trees. The cultivar 'Silver Blush' is a selection with particularly beautiful silvery markings, the leaves of which remain somewhat smaller than those of normal Anthurium crystallinum. This plant thrives best at temperatures between 18 and 25 °C and prefers a high humidity of 60 to 80 %. It prefers bright, indirect light and a well-drained substrate. Despite the large leaves, the plant grows relatively compactly, as the 2 cm thick stem is usually only a few centimetres long. This makes this anthurium ideal for use in terrariums, especially in tropical set-ups with constant humidity.
The distinctive feature of Anthurium crystallinum 'Silver Blush' is its large, heart-shaped leaveswith a velvety appearance and thick, silvery veins, which make the plant a decorative eye-catcher. The ‘blush’ effect created by the gentle fading of the broad silvery zone enhances the unusual appearance. The young leaves develop from red to orange to a dark green colour. While the leaf blades of the standard form of Anthurium crystallinum can grow up to around 50 cm long, they are only around 30 cm long in the 'Silver Blush' variety. This plant thus remains relatively compact and can therefore also be easily integrated into smaller terrariums.
