Description
Anthurium scandens, also known as pearl anthurium, originates from the humid and shady rainforests of Central and South America. As an epiphytic or climbing plant, it has adapted to life in the treetops, where it enjoys high humidity and indirect lighting. These conditions make it an ideal choice for terrarium keeping, especially in environments that mimic these natural habitats. Anthurium scandens thrives in constant humidity and does not tolerate direct sunlight, making it particularly easy to care for.
In the terrarium, Anthurium scandens adds an attractive green dimension with its heart-shaped to elliptical, glossy leaves and ability to climb vertical structures. Of particular note are the decorative, pearly white to pale yellow berries that develop after flowering and contrast beautifully with the dark green leaves. The inflorescence consists of a modest spadix surrounded by an eye-catching spathe, which can be white or greenish in colour depending on the species, making it a real eye-catcher in a carefully designed terrarium. The combination of attractive growth forms, the ability to thrive in shady conditions and the year-round presentation of fruit makes Anthurium scandens an exceptional choice for terrariums aiming for exotic and lush vegetation.
