Description
Anubias "Nangi" is a hybrid of A. barteri var. nana and A. gilletii, and it was first cultivated by Robert A. Gasser (Florida). It has been available in trade since 1986. It is rather unknown and not frequently cultivated these days, however it is produced by Dutch nurseries under trading names such as "Anubias sagittae" or "Anubias saggitte". The Nangi Anubias has broad-lanceolate, long pointed, dark green leaves. Submerged in the aquarium, the plant develops leaf stalks around 5-10 cm long and leaf blades 8-11 cm long. Emersed plants supplied from nurseries can have much longer leaf stalks and be approx. 30 cm high. However, the newly developed underwater leaves generally remain significantly shorter.
The Nangi Anubias is undemanding and grows well. Like other Anubias variants, this robust plant can be used in manifold ways.
Anubias "nangi" is a hybrid of A. barteri var. nana and A. gilletii that was created in cultivation by Robert A. Gasser (1922-2002, former owner of "Quality Aquarium Plants" nursery, Florida). This plant has been in trade since 1986 im Handel, however, nowadays it is a little-known rarity.
It differs from similar varieties of A. barteri as well as from A. heterophylla by a wide-lanceolate acuminate leaf form. The leaves are slightly bullous, shiny and of a dark green colour.
A. "nangi" is a well-growing highly recommendable Anubias form with low demands on cultivation.
