Description
'Variegated' is a selection of the Glabrous Anubias that has an interesting white variegation on the leaves. This white pattern is not always equally pronounced; at times pure green leaves may appear. The plant is also called Anubias minima 'Variegated' or 'Variegata'. Like the wild type, this Anubias is characterised by a distinctive narrow leaf shape.
The plant forms a strong, creeping rhizome (rootstock) with long, branched adhesive roots. With the leaves it reaches at least 12 cm in height. The leaves have approx. 8 cm long upright petioles and 12 cm long, 2.8 cm wide, horizontally spreading blades. The rhizome forms side shoots, so that a dense bushy habit develops over time.
'Variegated' grows larger than Anubias barteri var. glabra 'Variegated Small Leaf'. Like the latter, it is still quite rare in the trade.
Temperatures of about 21-27 °C and medium light intensity are recommended. Anubias species are known for their low requirements, but we recommend a complete macro- and micronutrient supply via the water column and CO2 addition for optimal growth. Like virtually all Anubias, 'Variegated' is primarily a perching plant that can be attached to hardscape materials.
Anubias barteri var. glabra 'Variegated' attracts attention with its narrow, partly white spotted leaves and works best in the aquarium middle ground on wood or rock. This variegated Anubias form is also interesting for paludariums.

The plan does not have a lot of variegation. Only half of the leaves had variegation, but the plant was healthy and quite big. Looks nice in the aquarium.
