Description
The Arabian wax Cissus is a particularly beautiful species of the grape family with roundish leaves. These are about 8 cm long, slightly toothed at the edge, thick, fleshy and shiny. Cissus rotundifolia is native to East Africa from South Africa to Sudan as well as the south of the Arabian Peninsula. In nature, it is a vigorous woody liana, up to 9 m long, which often grows in dense masses in dry forests and shrublands.
Cissus rotundifolia grows in well-drained soil and has moderate water requirements, it should be watered when the top layer of soil becomes dry. However, the soil must not become waterlogged. Occasionally, the plant can be supplied with a houseplant fertiliser. The Arabian wax Cissus, also called the Succulent grape, likes a lot of light, it also tolerates full sun in daylight cultivation. The plant will cling to thin sticks, twigs and strings with its tendrils. It can grow quite quickly, so it may need pruning.
Cissus rotundifolia with its shiny, round leaves is a decorative liana for terrariums oriented towards dry forest and scrub. It can be left to climb on branches and twigs, or strings can be used as a climbing aid.
