Description
The name Cryptocoryne retrospiralis is well-known in the aquarium hobby, however it has almost always been misapplied to forms of Cryptocoryne crispatula. Otherwise, the true Cryptocoryne retrospiralis from India can be seen as a rarity, and until recently it was virtually unavailable in the trade. This species forms grass-like stands on riverbanks in the monsoon regions of Indiabildet and is flooded during the rain period. It is closely related to the Cryptocoryne crispatula complex and named after its spirally twisted spathe.
The Antispiral water trumpet forms long, ribbon-shaped, green, smooth leaves under water. It is not demanding and grows well in medium-hard water. Not too few light and a nutrient-rich substrate are recommendable.
Cryptocoryne retrospiralis grows also well as emersed swamp plant. According to its origin, it is suited for creating biotope tanks which imitate Indian riverbank habitats.
