Description
The "Cooksche Form" ("Cook's form") is a variant of Cryptocoryne spiralis var. spiralis that is very suitable as aquarium plant. It was introduced from India in the 1990's. As submerged plant, this Cryptocoryne gets a moderate size, with about 25 cm long and 2 cm wide leaves. These are light to medium green, also with brownish tones under stronger lighting, strap-shaped to very narrowly lanceolate and have a slightly wavy margin.
In contrast to many other Cryptocorynes, this plant is hardly affected by the dreaded "Crypt rot". In general, it is quite undemanding, tolerating medium hard water. The optimum temperatures lie between 23 and 28 °C. However a nutrient-rich bottom and medium to strong light. Cryptocoryne spiralis is not recommendable for low light tanks. The "Cooksche Form" propagates well by up to 40 cm long underground runners.
This variant of the Spiral water trumpet is a decorative, easy to grow plant for the midground and background, as a solitary bush or extended stand. Its freshly green coloration contrasts well with darker and red plants. For the placement of the plant, one should consider that it will spread by runners.
