Description
This small orchid with a special growth habit comes from Papua New Guinea. It grows as an epiphyte on moss-covered branches in cool, damp mountain forests at an altitude of about 1500 - 2500 m. It forms more or less pendulous shoots, about 10 - 40 cm long and around 3 cm wide, which are densely covered with small, bluish-green leaves arranged in two rows. Short inflorescences develop on leafless shoots with dense racemes of 6 - 10 pink flowers, only 1 cm wide, which last for a long time.
With its attractive appearance, unusual for an orchid, Dendrobium dichaeoides is a perching plant that wants to be seen up close. It is suitable for rainforest terrariums, especially those that are cool to temperate.
