Description
Dendrobium rosellum is an exceptional orchid from the Malay Peninsula, Sumatra and Borneo. It grows as an epiphyte on tree trunks in the hilly and lower montane regions, at about 800 - 1100 m altitude. Upright to hanging shoots grow from a small rootstock with adhesive roots, which are flattened and have two rows of ovate, pointed leaves in dense succession. The shoots are up to 35 cm long, but usually shorter. The green leaves, about 1,5 cm long, can also have reddish tones in plenty of light or sun. On older shoots, an inflorescence appears at the tip with usually only one flower about 7 mm wide. This is light pink to magenta, orange in the centre.
Dendrobium rosellum stands out among the perching plants because of its special growth habit. It is suitable for rainforest terrariums.
