Description
Drosera prolifera, a fascinating carnivorous plant from the sundew family, originates from the tropical rainforests of Queensland, Australia. This species prefers shady and moist environments rich in organic material. It grows terrestrially and can be cultivated in moist, nutrient-poor substrates, ideally consisting of a mix of peat and sand. The plant thrives at constant temperatures between 15 and 30 °C and requires high humidity of at least 60%. Regular watering with distilled or rainwater is crucial to keep the soil constantly moist.
In terrariums, Drosera prolifera shows its full beauty. The bright green leaves, covered with fine tentacles, offer an impressive sight and serve to catch insects. Particularly attractive are the delicate pink flowers that appear on long flower stalks and can bloom all year round. This plant is excellent for tropical and subtropical terrariums, where it can be used as a focal point or in group plantings. It contributes to biological pest control by capturing and digesting small insects. Drosera prolifera is an easy-to-care-for and decorative addition to any terrarium.
