Description
Echinodorus 'Regine Hildebrandt' is a beautiful medium-sized Echinodorus cultivar. It was named by the breeder Tomas Kaliebe in honour of the then social minister of Brandenburg and entered the trade in 2001 first. Its submerged leaves are oval, somewhat turned sideways and display dark red tones. Also the older leaves don't much turn green. In its emersed (terrestrial) form, the plant has rather green leaves. Planted in the aquarium, it will develop its red submerged leaves after few days.
As well as other swordplants, Echinodorus 'Regine Hildebrandt' develops best with good makro- and micronutrient supply via the substrate. Its light requirements are moderate, however good lighting enhances the intense coloration of its submerged leaves. The water parameters are of subordinate importance; CO2 addition is not always necessary but very beneficial for the growth.
This colourful swordplant is recommendable for the midground of larger tanks or as specimen plant in small tanks.
Echinodorus 'Regine Hildebrandt' was created by Tomas Kaliebe from the former nursery ZooLogiCa (Altlandsberg) by crossing Echinodorus 'Ozelot' with E. uruguayensis "horemanii rot". This variety was named after the late social minister of the federal state of Brandenburg Regine Hildebrandt and christened during the Bundesgartenschau 2001 in Potsdam in her presence.
E. 'Regine Hildebrandt' is one of the smaller Echinodorus varieties and grows only to a height of 15 to 20 cm, which makes it highly suitable for smaller tanks or the foreground of large aquaria. Its submersed leaves are of an intensive wine red on the upper side, their form is narrow-ovate, slightly twisted, with a short stalk, up to 10 cm long and 5 cm wide.
This variety need lots of light and nutrients and grows slowly.
