Description

This enchanting ground plant from the Argyroneura group, known by the names Fittonia verschaffeltii or F. argyroneura, transports us to the world of the Acanthaceae with its origins in the rainforests of South America. This plant family includes many tropical specimens that impress with their distinctive leaf coloring and patterning. The Fittonia is characterized by its vibrant green and very fine white veins, which form an artistic network on the leaves. Unlike its sister plant 'White Anne', which features fringed leaf edges and a higher white content in the foliage, this Fittonia showcases more rounded leaf edges. Various cultivars of this mosaic plant, such as Fittonia albivenis 'White' or "White Bunt", offer a delicate display of a filigree white venation pattern on an intense green background.

Fittonia albivenis grows well in loose, humus-rich, slightly acidic soil that is kept moderately moist. It is sensitive to drought, but the soil must not become waterlogged either. When the plant is well established, it can be supplied with a houseplant fertiliser. Higher humidity above 60 % is favourable. The temperature range is about 16 to 28 °C. The Fittonia is a semi-shade plant and is best placed in bright light, but not in full sun if grown in daylight.

The White nerve plant is an ideal floor plant for rainforest terrariums and other closed containers such as bottle gardens and biOrb. It forms a carpet with its spreading shoots over time. Very colourful plantings are possible together with other Fittonia albivenis varieties such as 'Pink' and 'Red'.
