Description
Hobby Protogen is a concentrate with live infusoria grown on nutrient medium and is used for healthy, effortless feeding of fish fry in the aquarium.
These dried, but still living infusoria are also called infusoria.
They are tiny creatures in various sizes such as ciliates, slipper, eye and trumpet animals.
In the aquarium water, the dried animals start to move and multiply again.
The fish fry can be fed by means of the infusoria until larger food is accepted.
Infusoria do not need to be fed, but a new batch should be prepared every 3 - 4 days.
If there are chlorine or medication residues in the preparation water, no infusoria can develop.
The little animals are not visible to the naked eye. Only at a magnification of 25 - 50 times can they be seen visually. The presence of too many infusoria in the aquarium water becomes visible on the 3rd day through the formation of a film. This is not harmful to the aquarium inhabitants and can be removed with a skimmer or mechanically.
Features
- For feeding fish fry and invertebrates with live infusoria
- Can be fed dry and as a liquid preparation
- Easy to use
- For natural rearing of young animals
Application
Direct application: After hatching of the fry, 6 - 12 grains of Protogen are added to the aquarium water, depending on the number of fry. Double the amount on the second day. Continue feeding as needed until larger food is accepted.
Pre-culture: Prepare 1 g of protogene with 1 l of aquarium water in small shallow plastic or glass dishes at 18 - 25 °C and good lighting. The cultures are ready for use within 24 hours and multiply very strongly if left to stand for longer periods. The infusoria are added to the water with a pipette near the fish fry.
Note
Do not use metal containers for the use of protogene. The pre-culture or protogene grains should be put in where the brood is.
