Description
This Lilaeopsis is restricted to Mauritius in the Indian Ocean. It is likewise suitable as lawn-forming foreground plant as Lilaeopsis brasiliensis, however it has much narrower leaves with roundish cross section, so it has the appearance of a fine-leaved grass.
The Mauritius Micro Sword is very suitable for the aquascaping and has low demands. It grows rather slowly, this can be an advantage. Occasional radical cut-back promotes the development of a dense stand.
Lilaeopsis mauritiana is an endemic plant of the island of Mauritius. This species was first collected for aquaristic purposes in 1992, and in 1995, the aquatic plant nursery Tropica introduced it to the market under the name Lilaeopsis sp. "Mauritius". Only later on (in 1999) it was described as the new species L. mauritiana.
From those Lilaeopsis species in cultivation in the hobby up to now, L. mauritiana is the one with the narrowest leaves.
