Description
This stem plant is delivered from the Netherlands as "Eusteralis Narrow Leaf". We have noticed that it is Limnophila aromatica, more precisely the variant that is known as "Rice paddy herb", used as a spice herb in tropical Asia. It occurs on wet bottom and in shallow waters. In its emersed form it has a stronger fragrance than customary L. aromatica variants in aquaristics. The "Rice paddy herb" has been named Limnophila sp. "Wavy" by aquarists because of its markedly wavy submerged leaves. The submerged plant is light green, also with strong lighting. It has a relatively slow growth rate.
As well as other Limnophila aromatica forms and L. hippuroides, the plant should be well lit. Complete macro- and micronutrient supply, also via the bottom, and CO2 addition are recommendable. The most favourable temperatures lie between about 22 and 28 °C. As well as other stem plants, it can be propagated by cuttings of the stem tips and sideshoots.
Limnophila aromatica "Wavy" looks best as a group in the midground to background of larger aquariums. With its light green colour it contrasts well with red plants. As emersed plant it is also interesting for well-lit paludariums or setups such as shallow biotope tanks imitating a flooded rice field. Favourable conditions provided, one can also expect its light purple flowers.
