Description
This pretty, bushy growing stem plant of unknown origin is recently spread in the aquarium hobby as Limnophila aromatica "Mini". However, it differs from the plant of this name that is also available at Aquasabi. It looks more like a small version of Limnophila hippuridoides, hence our provisional name. The leaf whorls get about 5 to 6 cm wide, with 4 to 7, mostly 5 leaves. Especially the shoot tips are light reddish, the leaf undersides are strongly red-violet. Low light causes rather light green leaves. The plant grows moderately fast.
As well as normal Limnophila hippuridoides, this dwarf form grows best with much light, complete macro- and micronutrient supply and CO2 addition. Occasional trimming supports a dense growth habit. The propagation is simply done by cuttings.
Limnophila cf. hippuridoides "Mini" looks especially beautiful as a bushy group in the midground, also in the background of smaller tanks. Its appearance resembles Limnophila hippurides, with smaller size, more bushy growth habit and lower space requirement.
This relatively small and bushy growing stem plant is recently (around 2020) spread in the aquarium hobby as Limnophila aromatica "Mini". It is also labeled Limnophila aromatica in trade. However, it is not the long known L. aromatica "Mini" that is also called Limnophila sp. "Mini". It rather looks like a small version of Limnophila hippuridoides.
We call this plant provisionally Limnophila cf. hippuridoides "Mini". Its origin is unknown to us, but it probably originates from tropical Asia, as well as L. hippuridoides and L. aromatica. Above all, it is smaller and more branched than L. hippuridoides. A comparison with Limnophila aromaticoides would be interesting that probably vanished from culture (as of 2022). (read more)
