Description
Neoregelia 'Antigone Variegata' originates from the tropical regions of South America and belongs to the Bromeliad family. This plant naturally grows as an epiphyte on trees, but it can also be cultivated in well-drained substrate. It prefers high humidity and temperatures between 18 and 28 degrees Celsius. For optimal growth, the plant should be placed in bright, indirect light, as direct sunlight can cause leaf burn. The care is straightforward: water should be kept in the central tank, while the substrate should be kept slightly moist but not waterlogged.
Neoregelia 'Antigone Variegata' is characterised by its dense, compact rosette form. The leaves are strap-shaped with serrated edges that taper to a point. The leaf colour is green with striking white or cream stripes and spots, giving the plant a decorative appearance. During the flowering period, the centre of the rosette often takes on a more intense colour, further enhancing the plant's visual appeal.
In a terrarium, Neoregelia 'Antigone Variegata' is particularly decorative due to its colourful leaves and compact growth form. The central tank provides a natural water source for small terrarium inhabitants such as frogs and reptiles. This plant can be flexibly attached to back walls and branches or planted in substrate, offering diverse design possibilities. The inconspicuous flowers are set in the centre of the rosette and are often white or pale violet. The combination of easy care and attractive appearance makes Neoregelia 'Antigone Variegata' an excellent choice for tropical terrariums.
