Description

Neoregelia 'Purple Tiger' is a fascinating species of bromeliad that originates from the tropical rainforests of South America and is characterised by its impressive colourful leaf patterns and robust growth habit. This species belongs to the Bromeliaceae family and is characterised by a rosette-shaped arrangement of its vivid green leaves, which are streaked with purple to dark red spots or stripes. Neoregelia 'Purple Tiger' prefers bright, indirect light and high humidity, similar to its natural habitat in the undergrowth of tropical forests. It is relatively easy to care for and only requires moderate watering, whereby water should be applied directly to the centre of the rosette to imitate its natural water storage capacity. The temperature should ideally be between 18 and 29 °C, which emphasises its suitability for keeping in a terrarium.

In a terrarium, Neoregelia 'Purple Tiger' not only provides an exotic eye-catcher with its spectacular leaf colouring, but can also create an enriching environment for various terrarium inhabitants. The leaves of the plant form a natural water reservoir that small amphibians and reptiles can use for hydration. Although its flowers are rather inconspicuous and small, they add aesthetic diversity to the terrarium and provide a subtle contrast to the vibrant leaves. The inconspicuous flowers appear in the centre of the rosette and are often a sign of the plant's maturity. Neoregelia 'Purple Tiger' can be propagated by side shoots, which can lead to dense, colourful underground vegetation in the terrarium in the long term.
