Description

Neoregelia abendrothae originates from the tropical regions of South America and belongs to the Bromeliad family. This plant naturally grows as an epiphyte on trees, but it can also be cultivated in well-drained substrate. It prefers high humidity and temperatures between 18 and 28 degrees Celsius. For optimal growth, the plant should be placed in bright, indirect light, as direct sunlight can cause leaf burn. The care is straightforward: water should be kept in the central tank, while the substrate should be kept slightly moist but not waterlogged.

Neoregelia abendrothae is a compact bromeliad with a striking rosette form. The leaves are long, narrow, and strap-shaped, with smooth or slightly serrated edges. The leaves are mainly green, with the tips often coloured reddish to violet. This colour intensity can vary depending on the light conditions. The leaves have a stiff and leathery texture, making them resilient. The rosette can reach a diameter of about 20 to 30 cm, forming a symmetrical, dense structure. The bloom of Neoregelia abendrothae is set in the centre of the rosette and consists of several small, inconspicuous flowers. The flowers are usually white or pale violet and are closely packed in a central inflorescence. During the flowering period, the centre of the rosette can colour intensely, often in bright red or violet, making the plant even more decorative. The flowers themselves are rather inconspicuous, but the striking colour change of the rosette is a characteristic feature of this bromeliad and significantly contributes to its attractiveness.

In a terrarium, Neoregelia abendrothae is particularly decorative due to its compact rosette form and attractive, colour-intensive leaves. The green leaves with reddish-violet tips create a lively colour contrast and draw attention. During the flowering period, the centre of the rosette often takes on a more intense colour, further enhancing the terrarium. The central tank also provides a natural water source for small terrarium inhabitants such as frogs and reptiles. This plant can be flexibly attached to back walls and branches or planted in substrate, offering diverse design possibilities. Neoregelia abendrothae is a versatile and easy-care plant that enriches any tropical terrarium.
