Description
As its name suggests, Neoregelia lilliputiana is a particularly small-growing bromeliad and is the smallest of its genus. This species is endemic to the Brazilian state of Espírito Santo and is found in the coastal rainforest (Mata Atlântica) as an epiphyte on trees. The leaf rosettes, which are only about 5 to 8 cm wide and high, are green with reddish-brown mottling. New rosettes sprout from ascending to drooping stolons and form a larger group over time. Light blue flowers appear in the leaf rosettes. For propagation, rosettes can be cut off from the stolons and reattached or potted.
This dwarf bromeliad is particularly suitable for perching on branches, trunks, back and side walls in rainforest terrariums. Its small size makes it the perfect choice for enclosures that are otherwise too small for many bromeliad species. Neoregelia lilliputiana also looks particularly attractive as a larger group with drooping runners in more spacious terrariums.
