Description

Nymphaea lotus from tropical Africa, surely the most popular waterlily in the aquarium hobby, has a variable coloration of the submerged leaves. More or less green forms are known as Green Tiger Lotus, N. lotus 'Green'. However there are also transitional forms to the Red Tiger Lotus. The submerged leaves of 'Green' are a light green to slightly reddish basic color with dark spots and stripes. Otherwise Nymphaea lotus 'Green' has the same demands and applications as N. lotus 'Red'.

This plant is often, but not always, delivered as a tuber that sprouts in the tank. A short shoot with a rooting leaf rosette appears. Later the young plantlet detaches from the tuber. A young Nymphaea lotus plant is also viable when it is delivered without a tuber. Old, full-grown plants develop a tuber themselves.
