Description
The imposing and rare orchid Paraphalaenopsis labukensis is native to Borneo and grows as an epiphyte on trees and lithophyte on rock in moist, tropical hill forests. This plant forms long, creeping stems that can grow up to 1 meter long. The leaves are dark green shiny and have a terete, cylindrical shape. In cultivation, some leaves can grow up to 2 meters long. The showy flowers of P. labukensis usually appear in groups of 2 - 5, each on a separate inflorescence. They bear colours ranging from creamy white to orange and mahogany, and the odor is reminiscent of cinnamon. The petals and sepals are long and narrow, giving the flower a delicate, spider-like appearance.
Paraphalaenopsis labukensis is a unique and beautiful orchid species that adds a delicate touch to any terrarium. Although the species is rare, it is known for its pleasantly fragrant flowers and is an interesting addition for orchid lovers.
P. labukensi grows best in temperate rainforest and subtropical moist forest terrariums.
