Description
Peperomia clusiifolia originates from the tropical regions of Central and South America. It belongs to the Piperaceae family and is characterised by its creeping to upright, succulent growth. The variegated cultivar with pink leaf edges is marketed under several names: 'Jewelry', 'Jewel', 'Jelly', 'Ginny' and 'Variegata'.
This Peperomia species is notable for its thick, fleshy leaves, which are elliptic to ovate and glossy. The leaves are green with striking red margins, giving it an exotic appearance. The plant remains compact, reaching a height of up to 30 cm, making it perfect for smaller terrariums.
In a terrarium, Peperomia clusiifolia can be cultivated both in substrate and epiphytically. This species prefers well-drained substrate and moderate watering to avoid waterlogging. Its inconspicuous, greenish-white flowers rarely take centre stage, but its decorative leaves make it a focal point. This species is easy to care for, adaptable to various light conditions, and improves air quality, making it an excellent choice for any terrarium.
