Description

Pinguicula 'Aphrodite Clone Mini' is a unique insectivorous plant, bred in 1998 by the renowned Czech breeders J. Flisek and K. Pasek. This variety is the result of a cross between Pinguicula moctezumae and Pinguicula agnata and retains all the characteristics of its larger counterpart Pinguicula 'Aphrodite', but in a compact miniature form. The plant prefers partial to full sunlight or the equivalent of grow light, with a lighting duration of 16 hours per day. It thrives best at temperatures between 22°C and 29°C and a humidity of 50 to 80%.
The plant has no actual dormancy, but the insect-trapping leaves are replaced by a smaller succulent rosette for part of the year. The plant can stop growing if the temperature or humidity is too low.
A well-drained, nutrient-poor substrate such as a mixture of peat, sand, perlite and / or vermiculite is recommended.
During the phase in which insect-catching leaves are formed, the substrate should be kept well moist with soft, e.g. distilled, water.

Pinguicula 'Aphrodite Clone Mini' is excellent for keeping in terrariums. With long, narrow leaves that can reach up to 12 cm in length and 2 cm in width, it forms a compact summer rosette. The leaves vary in colour depending on light intensity, ranging from green to dark red, adding extra visual appeal. The plant blooms year-round, with the colour and size of the flowers changing as it ages, making it a special highlight in any terrarium. Its insect-feeding properties help keep the terrarium free of pests.
