Description
Pinguicula 'Florian' is a hybrid of Pinguicula debbertiana and Pinguicula esseriana. This carnivorous plant was registered in 2004 and named after the breeder's eldest son. Pinguicula 'Florian' prefers partial to full sunlight or the equivalent of grow light with 16 hours of lighting per day. The plant thrives best at temperatures between 22°C and 29°C and a humidity of 50% to 80%.
The plant has no actual dormancy, but the insect-trapping leaves are replaced by a smaller succulent rosette for part of the year. The plant can stop growing if the temperature or humidity is too low.
A well-drained, nutrient-poor substrate such as a mixture of peat, sand, perlite and / or vermiculite is recommended.
During the phase in which insect-catching leaves are formed, the substrate should be kept well moist with soft, e.g. distilled, water.
Pinguicula 'Florian' is ideal for keeping in terrariums as the controlled environment provides optimal growth conditions. With a diameter of up to 1 cm, it fits well in smaller terrariums. The leaves of this plant can take on an intense red hue under strong light, making it a visual highlight. During the insect-feeding phase, Pinguicula 'Florian' feeds on small insects, which helps keep the terrarium clean. The plant forms a smaller succulent rosette throughout the year, highlighting its unique adaptability and beauty.
