Description
Pinguicula 'Gina' is a Mexican hybrid that originated from Pinguicula zecheri and P. agnata. This plant was registered in 1998 and is known for its ease of cultivation, making it ideal for beginners. Pinguicula 'Gina' prefers partial to full sunlight or the equivalent of grow light, with a lighting duration of 16 hours per day. The optimal humidity ranges from 50% to 80% with adequate air circulation. A well-drained, nutrient-poor substrate such as a mixture of peat, sand, perlite and / or vermiculite is recommended. This butterwort has no distinct dormant period, but forms a smaller rosette of non-animal-catching leaves for part of the year. During the carnivorous phase, distilled water should be used to keep the substrate moist. The plant thrives best at temperatures between 22°C and 29°C.
Pinguicula 'Gina' is excellent for keeping in terrariums. With a diameter of up to 15 cm, it fits well in small to medium-sized terrariums. The leaves can appear in various colours depending on light intensity, ranging from electric green to yellow and pink, adding extra visual appeal. This plant blooms throughout the year and produces striking flowers that enhance any terrarium. Its insect-feeding properties help keep the terrarium free of pests.
