Description

A little known rarity, erroneously imported as "Limnophila puncatata Blume". It is commonly known under the provisional name Pogostemon cf. pumilus, however it has been identified as Pogostemon sampsonii by Christel Kasselmann in 2014. This species is native to southern China where it occurs in swamps and near waters. It is a rather slowly growing stem plant with a relatively compact habit. The leaves are slightly undulate and serrate, the stems are thick. It looks a bit like Limnophila aromatica "Wavy", but it is more compact, and its colour is more of a light blueish-green. The veins of young leaves are often reddish.

Pogostemon sampsonii is moderately demanding. Medium to strong lighting, regular macro- and micronutrient supply also via the bottom and CO2 supply are recommendable. As well as other stem plants, it is easily propagated by cuttings.

This Pogostemon is great as a low-growing compact bush in the middle ground, but should also be nice in planted streets in a Holland-style tank.

Known as Limnophila punctata 'Blume' and Pogostemon cf. pumilus for several years, this relatively new aquarium plant has been identified by Christel Kasselmann as Pogostemon sampsonii, a species from southern China.
