Description
'Butterfly' is one of several Rotala macrandra selections with small leaves. It resembles R. macrandra 'Min', but apparently it develops somewhat larger submerged leaves under the same conditions. These are small, narrow and develop intense red tones under strong lighting. may take on intense red tones. The upright growing stems are densely set with leaves.
As well as other variants of the South Indian species Rotala macrandra, 'Butterfly' is somewhat demanding. Rather strong lighting, low carbonate hardness, CO2 addition and complete nutrient supply on a regular basis via the water column are recommendable. As other stem plants, this Rotala can be propagated by stem cuttings.
Rotala macrandra 'Butterfly' is a delicate and likewise colourful stem plant that looks best as a group in the aquarium midground. It is also interesting for nano aquarium with its relatively small foliage.
