Description
Rotala rotundifolia "H'Ra" or "Gia Lai" is also known as Rotala sp. "Gia Lai" / "H'Ra". Not long ago, it was introduced from Vietnam; its trading name refers to its finding place, H'Ra in the province of Gia Lai in central Vietnam. Rotala rotundifolia "H'Ra" / "Gia Lai" has narrow leaves and develops a nice light orange to red colour under good lighting. It has the same elegant growth habit as the light green Rotala rotundifolia "Green": overhanging to horizontal ramified stems. When combined with the "Green" variant, Rotala rotundifolia "H'Ra" will be especially effective. It differs from the similar Rotala rotundifolia "Colorata" by lighter-coloured narrower leaves and more overhanging stems when cultivated under the same conditions.
This plant, introduced as Rotala sp. "H'Ra", belongs to the very variable species Rotala rotundifolia. It apparently was named after the hamlet H'Ra in Gia Lai province in the central highland of Vietnam. It is also sometimes called Rotala sp. "Gia Lai", after the province.
This plant closely resembles Rotala rotundifolia "Colorata", however, when cultivated under the same conditions, its submersed form is of a more orange colour and a bit narrower leaves, and a more overhanging or horizontal growth habit. The same growth habit can be observed in Rotala rotundifolia "Green", which mainly differs from R. rotundifolia "H'Ra" by its exclusively light green colour.
