Description
HyperSorb from Seachem is a high quality synthetic adsorbent with excellent organic removal and ion management capacity. It removes organic waste, toxic vapours and other pollutants. This makes it ideal for all types of water, including marine and brackish water, as well as a wide range of freshwater from acidic to alkaline. In freshwater, it helps stabilise ionic balance and control ammonia, nitrite and nitrate. Due to its synthetic composition, it has all the advantages of carbon but none of the disadvantages. HyperSorb gradually discolours when exhausted and can then be easily regenerated with a normal bleach. The regeneration is almost 100% effective and can be done repeatedly.
Features
- Purifies the water from harmful substances
- On a synthetic basis
- For fresh and salt water
- Can be regenerated
- Has no influence on the pH-Value
Application
It should be used in a filter bag such as The Bag. 250 ml HyperSorb per 300 litres (75 US gallons) aquarium water. Rinse well before use. A pronounced discolouration of the beads from yellow to deep brown indicates that the beads are exhausted in their wicking and need to be recharged.
Regeneration
The beads must soak for 24 hours in a 1:1 bleach:water solution in a non-metallic container in a well-ventilated area and out of reach of children. The manufacturer recommends a normal 8,25 % hypochlorite household bleach (no fragrance, no dye, no splash bleach). Rinse well and then soak for 8 hours with a solution containing 4 tablespoons of Seachem Prime or equivalent dechlorinator per cup of water. Rinse well with clean water. If used in fresh water, soak for 4 hours with a solution containing 2 tablespoons of buffer per cup of water (Discus Buffer, Neutral Regulator). The original colour and full activity should now be restored and HyperSorb can be used again. Caution: Some mucus layer products can permanently stain HyperSorb and make regeneration difficult. Do not reuse if bleach/chlorine odour is noticeable. If in doubt, soak the beads in a small amount of water and test for residual chlorine with a chlorine test kit.
