Description
Zoo Med New Zealand Sphagnum Moss is a natural sphagnum moss from New Zealand. This moss is a particularly soft variety and can be used in many ways in plant terrariums. New Zealand Sphagnum Moss can store up to 20 times more water than its own weight and releases it very slowly. For this reason, it is ideally suited for long-term wet biotopes. Since it is a moss adapted to changing moisture conditions, it can colonise a wide variety of habitats. Due to these optimal adaptations to changing humidity conditions, New Zealand Sphagnum Moss is also ideally suited as a forest floor for a rainforest terrarium or forest terrarium. It can also be used for steppe terrariums or in the Wabi Kusa. As it regulates the humidity in a natural way, the climate in the plant terrarium is positively influenced by Zoo Med Terrarium Moss.
Application
The moss can be used both dry and moist, depending on the requirements of the different environments. New Zealand Sphagnum Moss is ideal for arranging around live plants in the terrarium. Zoo Med's New Zealand Sphagnum Moss can be be washed out several times before it needs to be replaced with new moss. The frequency with which it needs to be cleaned may vary depending on its intended use. If a foul odour is detected or there is reason to believe that the moss may be dirty, it should be cleaned or replaced. To clean the moss, remove it from the terrarium and place it in a bowl of fresh, chlorine-free water. The moss should be swirled a little in the water. It should then be carefully wrung out. Repeat the process several times if necessary. The Zoo Med New Zealand Sphagnum Moss should survive 3 - 4 such washes before it should be replaced with fresh moss.
