Description
Bucephalandra sp. "Kedagang" is a rather small, particularly distinctive form of Bucephalandra. Its species identity and exact location are not known to us, but the trade name "Kedagang" probably refers to the town of Kudangan in South Kalimantan. The so-called Bucephalandra sp. "Mini" sold as a tissue culture plant is apparently identical to "Kedagang".
The elongated leaves are approx. 4 to 5.5 cm long and 0.8 to 1.2 cm wide with the petiole, and are overcurved. The petiole is about 0.6 to 1 cm long. The leaf margin is finely curled and bent upwards. The leaves have a very dark brown to green colour with a bluish sheen on the upper side and are covered with silvery dots. The underside of the leaves is silvery-white to pale violet in colour. The rhizome tips and young leaf stalks are wine-red in colour. The rhizome grows creeping to ascending and branches out, forming a multi-headed group over time. This Bucephalandra rarely flowers in the aquarium.
Compared to other Bucephalandra forms, "Kedagang" is quite vigorous. It is not very demanding, but shows its best side with medium to high light levels and a good supply of CO2 and nutrients. It is best tied to stones or root wood, where it attaches itself with its roots. It is also possible to simply stick it into the crevices of the hardscape or fix it to the substrate with a plant clip or similar (do not bury it!).
In our opinion, Bucephalandra sp. "Kedagang" is one of the most suitable and decorative Bucephalandras for the aquarium. It can be used in a variety of ways in the aquarium and looks best as a larger, multi-headed group on the hardscape.
