Description

This decorative stem plant is offered by the Japanese company ADA as Rotala macrandra 'Bangladesh'. This name is remarkable as it suggests an origin in Bangladesh, but the species Rotala macrandra is not yet recorded from that country. We rather have the impression that the plant is a large form of Rotala rotundifolia, not R. macrandra. Its submerged leaves are broadly linear to elongate ovate, slightly twisted and show light green, orange to pinkish red tones.

Until now, very little information about the culture requirements of this new Rotala is available. But it seems that the plant grows vigorous and has no very high demands, comparable with standard Rotala rotundifolia. However, it develops its nicest appearance with rather strong lighting, CO2 injection and a regular, complete macro- and micronutrient supply. As well as other stem plants, it can be propagated by cuttings.

Rotala macrandra 'Bangladesh' forms colourful, tall bushes and is best placed in the background to midground of an aquarium.
